FALPS has just about completed the 240 foot boardwalk into the Beaver Brook Marsh area in Peoples State Forest. We plan to have a vine (ribbon) cutting ceremony on Sunday, July 1, 2018. We are planning to meet at Squire’s Tavern, which is right next to the Peoples Forest HQ at 1:00 pm. We will then car pool up to the site, have a short ceremony, then retreat to Squire’s Tavern for a picnic. Those that want will hike back to Squire’s. We think we should be wrapping up around 3:30 pm.
This project, 100% done with volunteers, was started last fall and much of the work was done this winter- frozen is much better than using fishing waders! We are currently putting the finishing touches on it and we hope this addition to the forest will be enjoyed through out the year by the many forest users. By and large the forests are upland hardwoods mixed with hemlock and pine. There are relatively few wetland areas of any size. The access into this area is exciting as we have opened up a 55 acre wetland that was virtually impossible to enjoy.
