Connecticut Trails Day 2026: Peoples State Forest

Spend Connecticut Forest & Parks Association’s Trails Day 2026 with FALPS in beautiful Peoples State Forest in Barkhamsted, CT!

On this invigorating hike of approximately 5 miles, led by Erik and Helen Ann Landgraf, we’ll climb approximately 600′ in the first 0.75 miles, passing by a national historic site called the Barkhamsted Lighthouse Community.

Next, we’ll follow a series of switchbacks up a ridge with a short, steep climb to two beautiful overlooks of the Farmington River valley.

On our descent, we’ll hike through towering pine trees, past a colonial foundation, and turn along the shores of Beaver Meadow before enjoying two boardwalks.

The last segment of the hike includes terrain with moderate elevation gain and loss throughout a continually changing forest landscape before we reverse the earlier switchbacks and return to the parking lot.

🥾 Sturdy hiking shoes/boots and trekking poles are recommended. This hike includes rocky terrain that is steep in some sections and slippery when wet.

🐾 Leashed dogs permitted.
