Wildflower Walk on the Henry Buck Trail 2026

Join FALPS President Erik Landgraf and Helen Ann Landgraf on our annual Wildflower Walk/Hike on the Henry Buck Trail in American Legion State Forest. Late April is normally peak viewing time in this forest, and we expect to identify many different species of wildflowers along the way, including Trillium, Yellow Trout Lily, Dutchman’s Breeches, and more.

🌸 We’ll find most of the wildflowers we’re likely to observe on the first 0.5 miles of the Henry Buck Trail, starting from the southern trailhead. We’ll walk at a slow and mindful pace, allowing plenty of time for photos, identification, discussion, and learning.

🥾 After the first half mile, we’ll have two options for continuing on this guided hike:

  1. If you’d like to continue at a slower pace on easier terrain, return with us to the southern trailhead and enjoy a second chance to revisit your favorite wildflowers.
  2. For a longer and more challenging option, continue another 1.5 miles on a guided hike to complete the Henry Buck Trail. This segment of the trail includes moderate to difficult hiking on rocky terrain. Along the way, you’ll experience trail work originally completed by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC).

🪶 Birders, bring your binoculars for the chance to spot songbirds, woodpeckers, ravens, hawks, and more.
