Join Ultimate Birder, Dave Rosgen and Friends of American Legion and Peoples State Forests (FALPS) on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 5:30 PM EDT for a guided evening exploration to observe migratory birds.
The Farmington River valley is an important migration corridor for birds and thousands come right through Barkhamsted. Some will be on the move in mid-August.
Bald Eagles and Osprey are also prevalent on the river. It should be possible to get 40 species of birds in 2 hours of very slow-paced walking and standing still.

Location
Meet at the dirt road just North of Legion Road, West River Road, Barkhamsted, CT (American Legion State Forest). Parking is available on the sides of the dirt road. Limited parking is also available on West River Road at the Henry Buck trailhead.
