Hike Description

Meet FALPS President and hike leader Erik Landgraf at the Beaver Brook Recreation (picnic) Area on Beaver Brook Road in Peoples State Forest.

From the picnic area, we’ll hike about 0.6 miles on the Charles Pack Trail, passing through towering pines on the way to the Big Springs Area. We will then continue onto the Jessie Gerard Trail for about 0.7 miles. Along the Jessie Gerard Trail, we’ll take a break and enjoy views at Chaugum’s Lookout and the Grand Vista before continuing onto the Robert Ross Trail.

After 0.6 miles on the Robert Ross Trail, we’ll reach a junction with the Agnes Bowen Trail. Turning left onto the Agnes Bowen Trail, we’ll hike for 0.2 miles until we cross Beaver Brook Road and come to the first of two FALPS-built boardwalks which meander through the wetlands—the longest is over 840′! We’ll take time to enjoy this unique ecosystem before continuing onto the second boardwalk. The second boardwalk will take us 240′ into the beautiful Beaver Brook Marsh area.

After another restful break, we’ll continue hiking 0.6 miles along the Agnes Bowen Trail through Beaver Meadow until we come to a junction with the Charles Pack Trail. We’ll take the Charles Pack Trail 1.1 miles until we return to the Beaver Brook Recreation Area and conclude the hike.
