A Wonderful Gathering

What a wonderful dedication celebration we had with about 50 guests for the opening of the Soapstone Quarry site on the Walt Landgraf Trail, just off the Elliott Bronson Trailhead on Park Road on Saturday, April 5th.

The rain didn’t discourage folks at all and we were honored to have Senator Paul Honig, Representative Mark Anderson, DEEP Director of State Parks & Public Outreach and Barkhamsted First Selectman Nick Lukiwsky on hand for the ceremony.

Unfortunately, Dr. Ken Feder was unable to make it because of illness but Erik Landgraf, FALPS’ President, regaled those gathered with the story of how his Dad, Walt, first stumbled upon it and Ken brought students out to dig in the dirt and find all those soapstone wonders from thousands of years ago.

Make your way up there this spring and you will not only be amazed at the work done by FALPS’ and its volunteers but by the historical signs that tell you the story.
