North Meadow at Matthies Grove

A few years back, Pete Picone, a biologist with the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP), consulted with FALPS and Jim Warner, DEEP Manager of American Legion and Peoples State Forests, about planting wildflowers and native grasses in the North Meadow at Matthies Grove in Peoples State Forest. Challenging weather patterns interfered for a few years, but this year, many of the native plants began peeking up.

Master Gardner and new FALPS’ Board member Dave Lewis is now working with FALPS, Jim and DEEP to ensure that work continues at the North Meadow and that invasives don’t take over.

This is a work party that FALPS organized early this week at the North Meadow and a few photos from the summer. Thanks to all!
