Pruning apple trees

Time to prune your apple trees! FALPS’ President Ralph Scarpino, Board member Mike Schulde and DEEP’s Jim Warner, a FALPS liaison, and DEEP forest maintenance, Craig Anderson, pruned an apple tree this morning at the Honald tract, a new addition to American Legion State Forest. They reported the temps were cold but, in Ralph’s words, “It wasn’t as cold as it could have been–no wind. We had a good time.”
Mike and Ralph will be going back next Wednesday – 3/13. They’re meeting at Peoples HQ at 9 a.m. if anyone wants to join them. Bring loppers!
According to Ralph, the tree they pruned actually looks like an apple tree that has been cared for! Pruning will make the tree more productive with fruit, thus increasing its value for wildlife.
